Frequently asked questions

Everything about how SoyGunn loans work, from setup to final payment.

What is SoyGunn?

SoyGunn (ຊ່ວຍກັນ — 'help each other') is a peer-to-peer loan platform for Lao PDR. It turns a private loan between two people into a transparent agreement: clear terms, a digitally signed contract, LAO QR repayments, receipts, and reminders.

Is SoyGunn a bank? Does it hold my money?

No. SoyGunn is not a bank, a wallet, or a merchant, and it never receives, holds, or forwards money. Every transfer — the loan going out and every repayment — moves directly between the lender's and borrower's own bank accounts. SoyGunn provides the agreement and the record-keeping.

How do I request or set up a loan?

The lender starts on the New loan page, where our guided loan officer walks through the details: who's borrowing, how much, the term, and how interest is collected. The borrower gets an invite link, creates an account, verifies identity, and signs. The loan activates when both signatures are in.

What are the loan terms and interest rates?

Standard terms are a single lump-sum repayment: 7 days at 10%, 15 days at 15%, or 30 days at 20% flat interest. Loans range from ₭100,000 to ₭5,000,000 (or $10–$100). Interest can be deducted up front (borrower receives the loan minus interest) or paid together with the loan at the due date.

What happens after I sign the agreement?

Your request goes into processing and review. You'll hear back shortly — watch the notification bell and your email. Once both parties have signed (or an administrator approves the loan), the lender sends the money bank-to-bank and uploads the transfer receipt.

How do repayments work?

On the loan page, the borrower scans a LAO QR payment code that sends money straight to the lender's account, or transfers manually and uploads the receipt for the lender to confirm. Partial payments are supported — the remaining balance is tracked automatically and the loan completes when everything is covered.

Can I pay a loan off early?

Yes. Active loans show an early payoff amount with a full breakdown (principal remaining, interest, any late fees). Under the standard agreement, early repayment doesn't reduce the contracted interest unless both parties agree otherwise in writing.

What if a payment is late?

The agreement provides for a late fee on the overdue amount for each day it stays unpaid (10% per day under standard terms). Overdue installments are flagged on the loan, reminders go out automatically, and repeated lateness affects the borrower's payment record on SoyGunn.

Why do I need to verify my identity?

Before anyone can create or sign a loan, they upload a profile photo and an ID document, which a SoyGunn administrator reviews. This protects both sides: lenders know who they're lending to, and borrowers know the platform takes safety seriously. Documents are stored privately and shared only with your loan counterparty.

What does SoyGunn cost?

Borrowing is always free, and creating loans as a lender is currently free with no limit on how many you can have open. Optional Pro (₭499,000/month) and Business (₭999,000/month) plans add extras like late-fee tracking, borrower reminders, and priority support, paid by LAO QR transfer — no card needed.

Can I pay or receive money from overseas?

Yes — use the Special requests page for MoneyGram, Western Union, or overseas bank wires. These transfers are handled manually by our team, who match them to your loan.

How do I contact support?

Signed-in users can use the chat bubble in the bottom-right corner of any page — tap a common question for an instant answer, or write to the team and get a reply in the app (usually within a day).
